Creative Absinthe Project (EN) – Mirela Bichigeanu & Dan Iordache
While Adam and Eve were jointly banished from the Garden of Eden, raised the same children and shared the same experiences throughout human history, they remain two separate entities. The never-ending “battle of the sexes” has become more and more visceral these past decades. Now more than ever, it is generating an explosion of emotional effects resembling a vortex that sucks in feelings, energies, passions, dramas etc. Using a series of self-portraits capturing situations and/or activities that are mundane or not, the Project attempts to offer the viewer an X-ray of this duality, in hopes that it may help find the reasons why we are what we are.
We chose to separate the two planes in order to delimitate the joint space. The CREATIVE ABSINTHE Project is taking a slightly ironic look on certain situations created over the past decades. Women and men go through separate experiences, but they also have shared experiences, which go unnoticed, with little regard to the effects of this oversight on both sexes or on their social status.
The purpose of the being is related to time. We are born into and we open our eyes to this world as if we were thrown on a trajectory decided by someone else, not by ourselves. We come carrying a minimal emotional, material and spiritual baggage, which we then grow through a series of experiences and observations throughout our life, as we are looking for meaning in every second of our existence. We get involved in various activities, some of which are commonplace, which makes us forget what life stands for. A fundamental dimension of our existence eludes us and, because of that, CREATIVE ABSINTHE is trying to draw attention to how our core values are either exaggerated, forgotten or ignored. For each of us, there comes a time when we become aware of death as a limitation to all possibilities. In that moment, we begin to acquire an exhaustive understanding of our own existence. We look back on our life, we assess everything and we realize that the triteness of everyday living becomes meaningless and that there is another, deeper dimension to life. Thus, it becomes possible for us to give ourselves a second chance and to design a different future.
In no way does this Project undertake to discredit reason; instead, it attempts to show, using various techniques for manipulating space and time, that the reality in which we live can be subversive sometimes and that the things surrounding us, in which we believe, have a special texture that we can access through observation and meditation. So, observe, meditate and discover Adam and Eve!
